psychomotor skills

At the Erich Kästner School, students are offered an hour of psychomotor skills once a week.

For this purpose, there is a specially equipped psychomotor room with various materials that encourage movement. A roller slide, skateboards, balancing elements, various swings, and also numerous small materials are available to the students.

In the psychomotor skills lesson, movement and play situations are created in which the children can have a variety of positive movement experiences according to their abilities and at their own pace. In the non-performance room, the children use the materials to try things out freely and try their hand at the structures.

The aim of psychomotor skills lessons is to enable pupils to gain physical, self- and social experience through a variety of movement activities. The focus is always on the joy of playing and moving together. A fixed framework is formed by a joint opening and closing round in which the children present their own ideas for the lesson and discuss them with their classmates. Here, the first thing to do is to recognise your own needs, communicate them to others and, if necessary, find compromises. The key is to create a pleasant atmosphere for discussion and to plan and reflect on the lesson together.

The psychomotor skills lessons are supervised by special needs teachers with additional qualifications. Through the special psychomotor skills lessons, the pupils at the Erich Kästner School receive further and holistic support for their language development.
